October 24, 1971
The Drug Action Committee of Seminole County (DACSC), headed by Dr.
Luis Perez of Sanford, is founded by a group of concerned citizens who
believe that strengthening the family unit is the key to attacking the
growing problem of substance abuse.
1974
With the help of federal, state and county funding, DASC is able to
begin The Grove, an alternative school program and The Counseling Center,
which offers individual and family counseling. Students at The Grove
School attend classes and counseling during the week. The programs are
located on CR 427 in Longwood.
January 11, 1980
DACSC formally changes its name to The Grove Counseling Center,
Inc.
1982
Fees range from $1-to-$20 a day at The Grove School, a day treatment
program.
September 1982
The Grove relocates to The Seminole Youth Ranch on SR 419 in Winter
Springs. The land is leased to The Grove for a dollar a year.
August 24, 1984
A new building in Winter Springs is celebrated with a ribbon cutting
ceremony. The Grove now offers a day-treatment and foster-care program,
criminal justice and outpatient services.
1987
The Groves services expand residential treatment for adolescents.
1988
The Grove begins TASC (Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime) a
treatment alternative for criminal offenders who get an early release
on the condition that they attend treatment at Grove.
January 1992
The Grove Academy program is relocated to its current location next
to the GUYS program in Winter Springs.
1993
Equipment is purchased for the Reality Oriented Performance Experiential
System (ROPES) in Winter Springs. Grove clients use the program for
team building.
1994
The Grove is awarded a Department of Juvenile Justice contract for the
development and operation of a second residential facility, Grove Unique
Youth Services, GUYS, to accommodate moderate-risk juvenile justice
adolescents.
1996
The Groves Administrative offices are moved from the Winter Springs
campus to Longwood.
1998
An outpatient program opens in Sanford.
October 2000
The Grove worked with The Department of Juvenile Justice to open a second
Level 6 residential facility, a 30-bed program in Sanford called Grove
Opportunities to Achieve Lasting Success, GOALS.
2001
Seminole County Drug Court began as an alternative treatment program
for first time non-violent drug offenders. Those who successfully complete
the program will have all drug charges removed from their records.
September 2001
Altamonte Springs outpatient facility opened to accommodate new
treatment programs and an increased demand for services.
2002
The Grove opens a third outpatient facility in Longwood. The building
also houses administration as well as adult drug court and other outpatient
services.
November 2003
The Grove Net, an inter-office Web site for employees, is up and
running.
November 13, 2003
The grand opening of the renovated facility housing the GUYS program
replaces the 50-year-old building and serves an additional 16 youth
each year.
June 27, 2005
The Groves newest Outpatient Counseling center opens in Lake
Mary, replacing the Sanford location.
2004
The Groves outpatient facilities begin an Intensive Outpatient
Program for adults and adolescents. The four-week program includes group
and individual counseling sessions.
July 2006
The Grove Academy begins a Partial Hospitalization Program for
adolescents needing a treatment program in-between outpatient and residential
care. Clients who participate in the program attend counseling and school
each day at the Winter Springs location, but spend each night at home.
