Students at The Grove Counseling Center Heal Through Giving

Addiction is lonely. It consumes the mind and isolates the user. This month, The Grove Counseling Center partnered with Feeding Children Everywhere
for a day of community, service and healing through giving.
The Grove Academy
, established in 1987, is a voluntary residential program that addresses the physical, psychological and social needs of adolescents with serious alcohol or drug problems and helps them build a foundation for long-term recovery. A normal day at The Grove Academy includes individual counseling, small group counseling, school, physical and health education, life skills courses, Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and personal time for relaxation and reflection.
On April 12th, Feeding Children Everywhere visited the male students at The Grove Academy and facilitated the creation of 2,000 meals to assist with ongoing relief efforts in Haiti. Feeding Children Everywhere exists to empower and mobilize people from all walks of life to help meet one of our most basic needs: food. Don Campbell, Executive Director of Feeding Children Everywhere, jumped at the opportunity to work with students at The Grove. He explains, “My favorite part about working with any hurting students is when I see their heart softened by what they are doing to serve other people. It is a great way to get them to open up – to feel a sense of acceptance, significance. They know that they have something to offer the world.”
Director Scott Thigpen is also thrilled about the partnership. “There is no better way for our young people to truly help themselves than by serving others. I thank Feeding Children Everywhere for giving us that opportunity. I am confident that this was just the beginning of a win-win relationship that we have created with this wonderful organization.”
